Israel Soccer Team Humiliated in Loss, Coach Blasts Player Mentality

The Israeli national soccer team is reeling from a demoralizing 3-0 defeat to Ireland, described as one of the team's worst performances in recent years. Following the game, head coach Ran Ben Shimon held a lengthy meeting with his players, stating, "We embarrassed ourselves and the fans in the country." He criticized their performance, noting, "They dismantled us in every battle. We are the ones yelling at the referee, 'Ay ay,' and they dismantle us. Where is your honor?" No player responded to his question.

Despite Ben Shimon taking responsibility, he also pointed to a lack of player fight and a tendency to complain to the referee. The Israeli Football Association was reportedly shocked by the team's opening performance. The coach's decision to start with three defenders was deemed incorrect, though his future is not currently in question. However, if the team finishes fourth in their group, potentially leading to a lower seeding for Euro qualifiers, and the poor performance continues, Ben Shimon could be dismissed before his contract ends.

Many players were reportedly too dejected to eat dinner after the match, with some stating they had "no appetite." In response to the poor showing, Ben Shimon shortened the players' planned break, canceling a day and a half of free time. While the team considered canceling the morning training session to focus on video analysis, they ultimately decided to hold a session for those who did not play, as part of a rotation strategy for the upcoming match against Kosovo.
