Police Commander Under Investigation Eyed for Tiberias City Manager Role

Superintendent Avishai Moalem, formerly commander of the Judea and Samaria District's special investigations unit, is being considered for the position of Tiberias City Manager. The appointment requires approval from a vetting committee, expected to convene next week, according to a report by Kan News. Moalem was previously investigated on suspicion of bribery. In December, a court permitted the publication that Moalem was suspected of offering a bribe to a senior figure. He was reportedly recorded in a conversation with a businessman with a criminal record, who allegedly promised Moalem a share in his wife's business and financial transfers in exchange for help expunging his criminal record.

Moalem broke his silence in May, interviewed for the first time since the affair led to his arrest and suspension. In the interview on Kan 11's "Shabat News," Moalem presented his perspective on the events, directly accusing the Shin Bet and the Police Internal Investigations Department. The Tiberias Municipality stated that they are indeed seeking a city manager and that the vetting committee will convene soon, after which an official announcement will be made. They declined to comment on specific names.
