Shin Bet Files Complaint Against Channel 12 Over Netanyahu's UAE Visit Report

Israel's Shin Bet security agency has filed a complaint with the chief military censor against Channel 12, alleging that the network's broadcast of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's visit to the United Arab Emirates endangered the prime minister, his wife, his entourage, and forces on the ground. The Shin Bet stated that the report, which was aired while the prime minister's plane was still en route to Israel, constituted a severe censorship violation. The agency also claimed the broadcast exposed operational methods and jeopardized future operations. The Mossad intelligence agency similarly characterized the report as a serious security threat.

The Prime Minister's Office later confirmed the visit, revealing the Israeli delegation to Abu Dhabi included the head of the Mossad, the National Security Advisor, Military Secretary Maj. Gen. Guy Marom, the head of the Shin Bet's security division, the aircrew, and the security team. The office stated the broadcast put the lives of the prime minister, his wife, and the delegation at risk.

According to Channel 12's report, Netanyahu met with UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed. The visit, conducted on multiple aircraft, focused primarily on the Iranian threat, though other discussion topics were not officially disclosed. The meeting occurred amidst recent reports that bin Zayed had warned Netanyahu of an impending significant move by Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar against Israel prior to the October 7th attacks. This prior conversation, reportedly lasting 45 minutes, expressed concern from bin Zayed that such an action could lead to bloodshed, destabilize the region, and damage the Abraham Accords.
