Meni Assayag Slams Screenwriter Chen Avigdori Over Wife and Daughter's Captivity

Screenwriter Meni Assayag, known for his right-wing political stances, has sharply criticized fellow screenwriter and editor Chen Avigdori. The public dispute escalated after Avigdori posted criticism of Prime Minister Netanyahu regarding the October 7th Hamas attack, suggesting Netanyahu was warned and failed to act.

Assayag responded by accusing Avigdori of exploiting his wife and daughter's captivity in Gaza for personal gain. Avigdori's wife, Sharon, and daughter, Noam, were abducted from Kibbutz Be'eri on October 7th and released on November 25th as part of a hostage deal. Assayag claimed they were released quickly due to the efforts of the IDF, the Israeli government, and divine intervention.

Assayag further alleged that Avigdori, whom he labeled a "radical, disturbed leftist," damaged Israel's image and the legitimacy of the war. He also referenced an incident where Avigdori allegedly shouted "Didn't you kill enough Arabs?" in the Knesset, contributing to global antisemitism. Assayag asserted that even with his family held hostage, Avigdori viewed Israel and the IDF as the aggressors.

Assayag, who hosts a podcast and leads a charity, stated that he has ceased professional collaboration with his brother, comedian Shalom Assayag, due to the hateful messages he receives online. He vowed to continue challenging his critics, while his brother would continue his successful career in entertainment.
