Screenwriter Meni Assayag Reveals Threats of Burning and Mutilation

Screenwriter Meni Assayag, known for co-creating the TV series "The 80s" and brother of comedian Shalom Assayag, has revealed severe online threats he has received. Assayag, who frequently shares his opinions on widely covered topics in Israel, posted a harsh message directed at him on the social media platform X.

The user's message accused Assayag of not belonging to Israel but to "Bibism," a group allegedly attempting to dismantle the country, and claimed he had no connection to the Jewish people. The post escalated to violent threats, stating, "Rotten traitor, you need to be burned along with your flawed descendants, to erase your memory but with a small fire so you suffer. It's also possible to cut off various organs of yours along the way."

Assayag responded to the threats by stating he is employing a private investigator, in collaboration with the law firm of Yaniv Lankri, to identify the individuals he calls "keyboard criminals" who he claims are harming his reputation and disturbing his peace. He referred to these individuals as "Kaplan criminals," a term often used to describe anti-government protesters. Assayag stated he is paying for this investigation with his own money to track down these "cursed terrorists" and reported a nearly 90% success rate in identifying them so far. He warned those he is pursuing that the process will be painful.
