Ireland Player Accused of Racist Slur Against Israeli Soccer Player

During a Nations League match where Ireland defeated Israel 3-0, Irish player Jason Molumby allegedly called Israeli player Eliel Peretz a "monkey." Israeli team members reported that Molumby had been verbally abusive throughout the game. Molumby, however, complained to the referees that racist slurs were directed at his teammate, Adam Idah. The match officials dismissed these claims, which prevented the Irish Football Association from facing disciplinary action.

Molumby has a history of disciplinary issues. In a friendly match earlier in the 2024-25 season, he punched an opponent and was subsequently suspended for five games and fined £16,000. West Bromwich Albion's appeal against another red card he received was unsuccessful. During the 2025-26 season, he was sent off twice within 18 minutes, contributing to his team's 3-2 loss after they had led 2-0.

Earlier in his career, Molumby played alongside Israeli players Biram Kayal and Tomer Hemed at Brighton. Peretz, a defensive midfielder, played 88 minutes in the recent match and is expected to start in the return leg.
