Jet Ski Driver Fined $4,000 for Reckless Behavior on Sea of Galilee

A jet ski operator on the Sea of Galilee has been fined 15,000 shekels (approximately $4,000) for dangerous maneuvers, a penalty that could escalate to 75 days in prison if not paid. The ruling was made by the Tiberias Magistrate's Court as part of a plea deal, according to ICE. In addition to the main fine, the driver received a suspended sentence of 5,000 shekels for three years.

The incident occurred in June 2026. The driver was accused of operating the jet ski at speeds exceeding five knots near the shoreline and performing repeated dangerous maneuvers, at one point coming within 15 meters of the shore. He also towed an inflatable boat with two passengers while operating the jet ski with another person aboard, allegedly increasing speed and executing maneuvers that endangered those in the water and swimmers.

Following this case, the Kinneret Cities Association announced increased enforcement measures. Serious violations will be forwarded to the association's prosecutor for potential criminal charges. The restricted zone for certain violations has also been expanded, with the distance from the shoreline now 100 meters, up from 50 meters since June.

The Kinneret Cities Association stated a zero-tolerance policy for actions that endanger swimmers. The court's decision underscores that significant violations on the Sea of Galilee can now result in substantial fines and potential jail time for non-payment.
