Jet Ski Rider Fined Heavily for Reckless Boating on Sea of Galilee

A jet ski operator has been fined 15,000 shekels (approximately $4,000 USD) by the Tiberias Magistrate's Court after being convicted of boating violations on the Sea of Galilee. The penalty was imposed as part of a plea agreement, with the possibility of 75 days in prison if the fine is not paid. Additionally, a conditional fine of 5,000 shekels was issued, valid for three years.

The incident occurred in June 2026. The defendant was accused of operating a jet ski at speeds exceeding 5 knots, performing dangerous maneuvers near the shoreline, and repeating these actions multiple times. In one instance, he was reportedly only 15 meters from the shore. He then crossed the 300-meter line from the shore with another passenger on the jet ski, while also towing an inflatable raft carrying two people.

The prosecution argued that the defendant increased speed and executed maneuvers described as dangerous, endangering both the passengers and swimmers. He was convicted of violations related to boating safety and breach of port regulations.

Following this case, the Sea of Galilee Municipal Association announced a stricter enforcement policy against boating safety violations. Arik Tal, head of the association's supervision and enforcement unit, stated that evidence of violations will be forwarded for prosecution, emphasizing a zero-tolerance approach to behavior that endangers bathers. Enforcement measures have been intensified since June, with the minimum distance from the waterline for certain safety violations increased from 50 to 100 meters, expanding the enforcement range along the coast.
