Ben Gurion Airport Parking Full, Urges Public Use Public Transport
Israel's Ben Gurion Airport (TLV) is experiencing full parking lot capacity and has issued an unusual advisory urging travelers and their escorts to avoid arriving by private car. The Israel Airports Authority (IAA) stated that parking facilities are completely occupied until further notice, a situation attributed to the surge in passenger volume during the High Holidays and Sukkot festival.
The IAA is strongly recommending that the public utilize public transportation to reach the airport. This advisory comes as the airport anticipates approximately 1.3 million passengers between Yom Kippur and the end of Sukkot, with over 90,000 passengers expected daily during Sukkot.
Popular destinations for Israelis include Greece, Cyprus, Italy, the UAE, the US, Germany, Georgia, and France. The increased travel has led to significant delays, with an average departure delay of 63 minutes over the past week. Only about 16% of flights have been departing on time. Arrival delays average around 50 minutes. Airlines experiencing the most notable delays include Tus Airways (138 minutes), Blue Bird (133 minutes), and Arkia (76 minutes).
