Jerusalem Preacher Charged for Praising Deadly Sinai Attack
Jerusalem prosecutors have filed an indictment against an East Jerusalem resident and mosque preacher for inciting terrorism. The charges stem from remarks made three years after a deadly attack on the Israel-Egypt border. The preacher, who delivered his sermon at the Al-Aqsa Mosque on the Temple Mount, reportedly praised the Egyptian attacker, Mohamed Salah, who carried out a shooting attack in June 2023 that killed IDF soldiers Lia Ben Nun, Ori Isaac Iiluz, and Ohad Dahan.
During Friday prayers, in front of dozens of attendees, the preacher referred to the attacker as "this Egyptian soldier, a heroic soldier, an emissary of Allah." He further urged Egyptian soldiers to "liberate all the prisoners and Al-Aqsa," praying for "the Egyptian army to soon liberate the country and the people from the desecration of the occupying criminals."
The sermon also included criticism of the Palestinian Authority, urging them not to assist Israel and to "take a stand of honor as this heroic soldier stood."
