Israeli Man Indicted for Praising Terrorism on Instagram
An indictment has been filed in Israel's Beer-Sheva District Court against Ahmad Abu Mahareb, a 20-year-old resident of Lakiya in the Negev. The Israeli prosecution accuses him of disseminating content on his private Instagram account, which had approximately 1,300 followers, that incited terrorism and expressed support for terrorist organizations.
According to the indictment, between 2025 and 2026, Abu Mahareb allegedly shared numerous posts praising Hamas, its leaders, and perpetrators of attacks. Some content also called for jihad, attacks against Jews, and the destruction of Tel Aviv.
Specific posts cited include a segment of a speech by Hamas military chief Mohammed Deif from the morning of October 7, announcing the attack on Israel and calling for jihad. Abu Mahareb also reportedly shared images of an attack by Uday Tamimi, glorifying the perpetrator's actions. Other publications featured Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, senior organization officials, and the slogan "Jihad: Victory or Martyrdom."
The prosecution contends that the nature and circumstances of these posts created a real risk of encouraging terrorist acts. Some publications also led to additional charges of identifying with a terrorist organization.
