Israeli Election Committee Approves Party Designations for 26th Knesset
The Central Elections Committee has finalized the list of letter designations for parties running in the upcoming 26th Knesset elections. Among the approved designations are "ב" for Otzma Yehudit led by Itamar Ben-Gvir, "מחל" for Likud under Benjamin Netanyahu, and "כן" for Blue and White led by Benny Gantz. The committee also approved "ט" for the Religious Zionism party, headed by Bezalel Smotrich, and Moshe Feiglin's Zehut party.
Several parties had their initial letter choices rejected. For instance, the "יה" designation was denied to one list due to concerns about offending public sensibilities, leading to the approval of "ה" as its second choice. Another list, initially seeking "יה", was approved with the letter "ה".
The committee approved the United Arab List (Ra'am) and the Joint List parties "on condition" pending a Supreme Court decision. The committee had previously determined that both lists are barred from participating in the elections under Section 7a(a)(1) of the Knesset Basic Law. Additionally, two candidates from the Joint List were disqualified.
Other approved party designations include "רק" for Naftali Bennett's party, "דרך" for Gadi Eisenkot, "ל" for Yisrael Beiteinu led by Avigdor Lieberman, and "אמת" for Yair Golan's Democrats. The Shas party and United Torah Judaism also received their designations.
