Former Securities Authority CEO Oded Shpirer Appointed Director General of Wingate Academic Center

Oded Shpirer, the former Director General of the Israel Securities Authority, has been appointed as the new Director General of the Ono Academic College, effective December 1, 2026. Shpirer previously served as the head of the Securities Authority from 2019 and held various key positions within the organization, including head of the investigations unit and general secretary. During his tenure, he managed the authority's daily operations, led strategic initiatives, oversaw the annual budget, human resources, technology, and ensured operational continuity during emergencies.

Shpirer replaces Shlomo Ben-Gal, who has served as Director General of the Wingate Academic Center since 2010. Ben-Gal continued in his role after the center merged with Ono Academic College in March 2022.

Professor Shira Yalon-Hachamovici, the incoming president of the Ono Academic College, expressed her enthusiasm for Shpirer's appointment, stating, "I am very pleased with our choice of Adv. Oded Shpirer, and I am confident that together we can lead the Ono Academic College to be a key player in improving education in Israel." She added that Shpirer's experience and professionalism would significantly contribute to creating academic and social impact, alongside organizational and economic resilience, especially given the current challenges in the education sector.

Shpirer commented on his new role, saying, "I am entering my new position at the Ono Academic College with the belief that the most significant impact can be created in education and academia. I am excited to join an institution with such a clear public mission and to work with the board and management on shaping its future management and strategy."

Professor Yalon-Hachamovici also noted that Israel's public education system is currently in a severe crisis, requiring urgent action from all stakeholders. The Ono Academic College, which trains future educators, is working tirelessly to address these challenges.
