Flight Cancellations at Ben Gurion Airport Drop Significantly

Amidst the busy Rosh Hashanah holiday period, a review by FlyBack revealed a notable decrease in flight cancellations at Ben Gurion Airport. During the past week, only 32 flights were canceled out of approximately 3,076 scheduled, marking a 14% reduction compared to the previous week's 37 cancellations. However, an additional 25 flights experienced delays of eight hours or more, which are legally considered cancellations. The most significant delay involved Red Wings flight WZ4311 from Sochi to Tel Aviv on September 26, which departed 17.5 hours late.

Among airlines, Bluebird recorded the highest cancellation rate at 2.2%, with 7 out of 315 flights canceled. Following closely were Wizz Air Malta at 1.9% (2 of 105 flights) and Arkia at 1.0% (4 of 399 flights). Heraklion was the destination most affected by cancellations, with 6 flights canceled. September 23rd was the busiest day for disruptions, with 12 flights canceled.

Under Israeli aviation law, passengers on canceled or significantly delayed flights may be eligible for compensation up to 103,450 shekels per person, subject to individual eligibility assessment.
