Netanyahu Adviser Meets Qatari Official Amid Tensions Over Hamas Support
An adviser to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with a senior Qatari representative in New York just one day before Netanyahu publicly criticized Qatar at the United Nations. Michael Eisenberg, Netanyahu's advisor, met with Ali al-Thawadi, a high-ranking Qatari official, in New York. According to Channel 12, the meeting occurred the day before Netanyahu's address to the UN General Assembly, where he sharply criticized Qatar for its support of Hamas.
During their discussions, Eisenberg and al-Thawadi reportedly addressed the implementation of a US-backed peace plan for Gaza and the delivery of humanitarian aid to the territory. Al-Thawadi represents Qatar on the US-backed Executive Council for Gaza.
The report also noted al-Thawadi's previous presence in the Oval Office during a meeting where then-US President Donald Trump instructed Netanyahu to contact the Emir of Qatar and apologize for an Israeli strike on Hamas leaders in Doha. This meeting comes after the Qatari Prime Minister had previously made sharp remarks about Netanyahu.
