Owner Intervenes to Allow Tamir Blatt Back to Hapoel Tel Aviv Practices

Hapoel Tel Aviv owner Ofer Yanai personally intervened to allow player Tamir Blatt to return to team practices, despite professional reservations from coach Dimitris Itoudis. Yanai met with both Blatt and Itoudis at the team's arena about an hour before practice on Friday. Blatt expressed his desire to be loaned to a European team, feeling he would get more playing time there, particularly in the EuroLeague, than with Hapoel Tel Aviv due to the crowded roster at his position. Yanai, however, conveyed the club's strong desire for Blatt to play for Hapoel.

Following his conversation with Blatt, Yanai spoke separately with Itoudis. The owner requested that the coach include Blatt in the team's roster, emphasizing its personal importance to him, even though Blatt was not initially part of the coach's professional plans. Itoudis eventually agreed to integrate Blatt into the team.

This development comes after two early-season losses for Hapoel Tel Aviv: to Maccabi Tel Aviv in the Super Cup and to Bayern Munich in the EuroLeague. Club officials had been attempting to facilitate Blatt's return to practices. Blatt, who is still injured, had not participated in recent practices and was not invited to the team's official photo day.

Blatt signed a three-season contract with Hapoel Tel Aviv worth approximately $1.5 million per season. Until now, the club had been seeking a team to take him on loan. The recent discussions and Yanai's personal request suggest a shift, with the next question being how Blatt will fit into the team's strategy and how much playing time he will receive once healthy.
