Israel Warns Citizens Against Travel to Ethiopia's Tigray Region Amid Renewed Conflict
Israel's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a travel advisory urging citizens to avoid all travel to the Tigray region in northern Ethiopia due to a resurgence of armed conflict. The ministry recommends that Israelis refrain from visiting Tigray until further notice.
Ethiopian Airlines has suspended its flights to and from three airports in the region: Mekelle, Axum, and Shire. The airline has not provided a timeline for the resumption of these services.
Israeli citizens currently in Tigray are advised to minimize non-essential movement, stay away from gatherings, demonstrations, military installations, and potential friction points, and remain in secure locations. They are also encouraged to heed local authorities' directives and monitor developments.
Due to potential road blockages, communication disruptions, and changes in exit routes, travel between cities or attempting to leave the region independently is discouraged unless the safety of the route and destination is confirmed. Israelis in Tigray are requested to update the Israeli Embassy in Addis Ababa with their location and contact details, and to inform them of any changes.
