Israel Issues Urgent Travel Warning for Tigray Region Amid Escalating Conflict

The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued an urgent travel warning on Friday for Israelis currently in Ethiopia's Tigray region, citing a significant escalation in the security situation and the resumption of armed conflict.

Israeli citizens in Tigray are strongly advised to avoid all travel to the region until further notice. Ethiopian Airlines has suspended its flights to and from the airports in Mekelle, Axum, and Shire due to the deteriorating security conditions, with no clear indication of when services will resume.

Israelis remaining in Tigray are urged to exercise extreme caution, minimize non-essential movement, and stay away from gatherings, military installations, and potential friction points. They should adhere to local authorities' directives and monitor media developments closely.

The ministry warned of rapid security changes, including road closures, communication disruptions, and altered transportation options. It advised against intercity travel or attempting to leave the region independently without verifying the safety of routes and destinations. Israelis are encouraged to maintain contact with their airline and follow updates on flight resumptions.

Furthermore, Israelis in Tigray are requested to promptly update the Israeli Embassy in Addis Ababa with their location, contact details, and any subsequent changes. The Foreign Ministry stated it is continuously monitoring the situation and will update its recommendations accordingly.
