Israel Issues Travel Warning for Venezuela After Deadly Earthquakes
Israel’s Foreign Ministry on Friday issued a travel warning for Venezuela after severe earthquakes struck the country and killed at least 235 people. The ministry told Israeli citizens to avoid all travel to Venezuela for any reason until further notice.
The warning cited Venezuela’s high risk level, including violent crime, kidnappings, and security and political instability, as well as limited ability to provide consular assistance to Israelis. The ministry also said it was preparing to send a humanitarian aid delegation to Venezuela.
The ministry said that over the past day, two powerful earthquakes hit the country, causing many casualties, major damage to infrastructure, and disruptions to transportation and communications. Authorities there have declared a state of emergency.
Officials also warned of aftershocks that could cause additional damage and worsen the situation.
