Israel Warns Citizens Against Travel to Ethiopia's Tigray Region
Israel's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a travel warning for the Tigray region of Ethiopia, strongly advising against non-essential travel due to a severe security escalation and renewed clashes. Israelis currently in the region are urged to exercise extreme caution, limit movement, and avoid public gatherings, demonstrations, military zones, and areas of friction.
The ministry cautioned that the security situation can change rapidly, potentially leading to road blockages, communication disruptions, and limited transportation out of the area. Travelers planning to leave are advised to verify safe exit routes in advance. Israelis in Tigray are requested to update the Israeli Embassy in Addis Ababa with their location and contact details.
In response to the deteriorating security, Ethiopian Airlines, a popular carrier for Israelis, has suspended flights to and from Mekelle, Axum, and Shire airports. The airline has not announced a timeline for resuming these services, and travelers are advised to maintain contact with the airline for updates.
