Israel Neutralizes Hamas Financial Network, Blocks Over $1 Billion

Israel's security establishment has reported a significant achievement in its campaign against Hamas's funding infrastructure, neutralizing 16 key financial operatives responsible for transferring and financing the militant group's military activities. The total funds managed by these eliminated operatives for Hamas's military wing in Gaza are estimated to exceed $1 billion.

These funds were channeled through an extensive network of dozens of money exchangers operating in both Turkey and the Gaza Strip. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) and the Shin Bet agency conducted operations targeting this network, which have substantially impaired Hamas's ability to sustain its military operations, according to security officials.

Among the high-ranking operatives eliminated are Ibrahim Abu Shamala, who oversaw finances for Hamas's military wing, and Muhammad Abu Alwan, responsible for the political wing's finances. Abu Alwan, killed last week, had been involved in the organization for about a decade and was in charge of budgeting all of Hamas's departments. Other eliminated infrastructure heads included Khader Jamasi, Ihab Krizem, and Hussein Kadra, who managed fund offsetting, receipt, and delivery. Kadra, along with Muhammad Farra and others, operated a complex network of couriers and exchangers.

The network utilized dozens of couriers and exchangers in Turkey and Gaza, transferring funds in cash and through alternative channels to bypass international banking systems and oversight. The neutralized funds were used by Hamas for salaries, military buildup, weapons procurement, rebuilding terror infrastructure, and planning attacks against Israeli forces and civilians.

Despite a ceasefire agreement, Hamas reportedly continued to pay its operatives and finance military activities, a clear violation of the terms. The IDF and Shin Bet emphasized that anyone involved in financing Hamas's military operations is a target. The security establishment vows to continue its efforts to strike and thwart any entity facilitating terror financing and warned Gaza residents about individuals still involved in these activities, posing risks to their lives. Security forces remain deployed in the region and will continue to act against any security threat.
