Slaviša Jokanović Named New Basel Manager
Slaviša Jokanović has been officially appointed as the new head coach of Swiss club Basel until the end of the season. The 58-year-old Serbian-Spanish manager most recently coached Al-Nassr in Dubai before taking on his new role in Switzerland.
Jokanović has a history with Israeli club Maccabi Tel Aviv, whom he led to the group stage of the Champions League in the 2015-16 season. After that successful campaign, he moved to Fulham in England, having only spent half a season in Israel. Notably, Maccabi Tel Aviv eliminated Basel in the Champions League playoff round that season, with a 2-2 draw away and a 1-1 draw at home, under the then-current away goals rule. Jokanović now returns to Basel, the club against whom he achieved one of the biggest successes of his coaching career.
