Slaviša Jokanović Named New Basel Manager
Slaviša Jokanović has been officially appointed as the new head coach of Swiss club Basel until the end of the season. The 58-year-old Serbian-Spanish manager most recently coached Al-Nassr in Dubai before taking on his new role in Switzerland.
Jokanović has a prior connection to Basel, having previously managed Maccabi Tel Aviv. He led the Israeli club to the group stage of the Champions League in the 2015/16 season, notably eliminating Basel in the playoff round. Maccabi Tel Aviv advanced on away goals after a 2-2 draw in Basel and a 1-1 draw at home.
Following his success with Maccabi Tel Aviv, Jokanović moved to Fulham in England, having spent only half a season in Israel. His appointment at Basel marks a full-circle moment, as he takes charge of the team he helped his former club overcome in a significant European achievement.
