Court Reduces Detention of Suspect Who Threw Bottle at Naftali Bennett

A Tel Aviv District Court on Friday accepted an appeal and reduced the detention period for a suspect accused of throwing an object at former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett during a campaign event in Bnei Brak. The suspect, arrested Thursday evening by police and Border Police forces, had his detention extended until Sunday, September 27, by the District Court. This decision followed an earlier extension granted by a Magistrate's Court, which had ordered his detention until Monday, September 28.

The incident occurred Thursday evening at the "Motis HaTsholentia" restaurant in Bnei Brak, where Bennett, chairman of the "Habayit Hayehudi" party, was meeting with Haredi (ultra-Orthodox) yeshiva students and young people as part of his election campaign. Reports indicate that during the meeting, extremist activists gathered, and the atmosphere became tense.

During the ensuing commotion, a glass bottle was thrown toward Bennett. According to a police statement, the object did not hit him. However, Bennett's "Habayit Hayehudi" party claimed that two objects were thrown, one of which struck a female staff member on the head. She received medical attention at the scene. The police stated that the investigation is ongoing, and the suspect is scheduled for release on Sunday, as per the District Court's ruling.
