Police Neutralize Suspect Firing at Nazareth Home

Northern District detectives shot and killed a suspect who was firing heavily at a residential home in Nazareth overnight. The suspect arrived at the scene on a scooter with another individual, fired numerous rounds at the house, and was then wounded by police fire. An M-16 rifle was recovered at the scene. The operation was part of increased police efforts in Nazareth to thwart shooting incidents and crime. Detectives had been positioned near the building, which had been targeted in recent days, based on intelligence assessments.

As detectives were present, they identified a suspect who arrived on a scooter with another person. The suspect dismounted and fired a large number of bullets at the residence. The detectives engaged the suspect, responding with gunfire. Following a foot chase, officers apprehended the wounded suspect. He was evacuated to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Northern District Commander, Superintendent Meir Eliyahu, assessed the scene and praised the detectives' actions, stating, "The detectives engaged, neutralized the armed man, and prevented casualties."

This incident occurs amid a recent surge in shooting and crime events in the Arab sector, which the Israel Police have been confronting. Just days prior, a Kalashnikov rifle was discovered hidden under stones and an animal carcass in a Nazareth cemetery by district police and Border Police officers. Concurrently, police continue enforcement actions against offenses involving two-wheeled vehicles and road bullying, including a dramatic chase in the village of Yassif after a scooter rider refused to stop while carrying a 7-year-old child without a helmet.
