Police Fatally Shoot Suspect in Nazareth After Gunfire

A young man, identified as Omar Hawari from Reineh, was killed by police fire in Nazareth. According to a police statement, undercover officers from the Northern District were operating in Nazareth as part of an intensified effort to combat shootings and crime. The officers were positioned near a building that had been targeted by gunfire in recent days.

While on duty, the officers observed a suspect arrive on a motorcycle with another individual. The suspect dismounted and fired numerous shots at a residential building. The undercover officers engaged the suspect, returning fire. Following a foot pursuit, they apprehended the suspect, who had been wounded by police gunfire. The suspect was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Northern District Police Commander, Major General Meir Eliyahu, assessed the situation at the scene and commended the officers for their swift action in neutralizing the armed individual and preventing further casualties. The operation was part of a broader initiative to curb criminal activity and gun violence in the city.
