Police Fatally Shoot Man Firing M-16 at Nazareth Home

A man in his thirties, identified as Omar Hawari from the town of Reineh, was killed by police gunfire in Nazareth on the night of September 24-25, 2026. According to a police statement, officers observed Hawari firing a barrage of bullets from an M-16 rifle at a residential building.

Police in the Northern District were conducting intensified operations against shootings and crime in Nazareth. Detectives were stationed near a building that had been targeted in recent days. They spotted a suspect arriving on a motorcycle with another individual. The suspect dismounted and began firing heavily at the house.

Officers immediately engaged the suspect, returning fire. After a foot pursuit, police apprehended the man, who had been wounded by their gunfire. The M-16 rifle used in the shooting was recovered at the scene.

Major General Meir Eliyahu, commander of the Northern District Police, assessed the situation and praised the detectives for their swift action in neutralizing the armed individual, preventing potential casualties.
