Acclaimed Israeli Author and Poet Yehuda Atlas Dies at 72
Acclaimed Israeli author, poet, and translator Yehuda Atlas passed away on Thursday at Ichilov Medical Center in Tel Aviv. Atlas, considered one of the foremost creators of children's and youth literature in Hebrew, leaves behind a rich cultural legacy that has shaped generations of Israeli children and parents.
His family eulogized him, stating, "Yuda was an eternal child until his last moments. In his life, he acted and worked for people out of feeling and a desire to help. He was an editor, a children's author, and a translator, and in his later years, he wrote about at-risk children out of a sense of mission. May his memory be blessed."
Atlas gained widespread recognition for his iconic book "And This Child Is Me," which introduced a unique, honest, and groundbreaking voice to Israeli children's literature. Many of his poems were set to music and performed by leading Israeli artists, becoming an integral part of the Israeli soundtrack.
