Netanyahu Trial: Judge Rejects Ex-AG Mandelblit's Request to Postpone Testimony
A Jerusalem District Court judge has rejected a request by former Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit to postpone his testimony in the corruption trial of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Mandelblit, who currently serves as the dean of the law faculty at the Ono Academic College, had asked to testify in November or December, after the upcoming Knesset elections.
He cited academic obligations, stating that the new academic year begins November 1st and the period after the Sukkot holiday requires intensive work including faculty recruitment, administrative training, student admissions, and curriculum development. Mandelblit argued these tasks necessitate his constant presence.
However, Judge Rivka Friedman-Feldman ruled that Mandelblit's reasons did not justify altering the established schedule. She indicated the court is disinclined to delay the proceedings surrounding his key testimony. The judge did leave a narrow opening for a potential reconsideration if the defense team presents alternative witnesses for the scheduled hearing dates.
