Netanyahu Trial: Judge Rejects Ex-AG's Request to Postpone Testimony Past Elections

Former Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit's request to postpone his testimony in the high-profile trial of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been denied by the Jerusalem District Court. Mandelblit, currently dean of the law faculty at Ono Academic College, had asked to testify in November or December 2026, after the upcoming Knesset elections.

He cited professional reasons, including the critical period of launching the new academic year at his college on November 1, 2026. Mandelblit argued that this intensive period, involving faculty recruitment and student admissions, requires his full attention. He also mentioned the absence of a key staff member, Dr. Ruth Gan, who is assisting with the faculty's establishment and also serving in reserve military duty, further complicating preparations.

Judge Rivka Friedman-Feldman ruled that Mandelblit's stated reasons did not justify altering the court's established schedule. The court indicated it was unwilling to delay the proceedings, particularly concerning Mandelblit's central testimony.

However, the judge left a potential opening: if the defense team agrees to have other witnesses testify during the October dates originally set for Mandelblit, the court would reconsider his request to postpone his testimony. This means Mandelblit could only delay his appearance if an agreement is reached to reschedule other witnesses.
