Maccabi Tel Aviv Center Roman Sorkin Signs Lucrative Four-Year Contract Extension

Roman Sorkin, a key center for Maccabi Tel Aviv basketball club, has agreed to a new, upgraded contract that will keep him with the team for an additional four seasons. Under the terms of the new deal, Sorkin is expected to earn approximately $1.5 million annually. This agreement comes two years after his previous five-year contract, signed in the summer of 2024, which was valued at $900,000 per season and saw incremental raises each year. In the most recent season, Sorkin's salary was around $1.1 million.

Sorkin, currently in his eighth season with Maccabi Tel Aviv, recently led the team with 16 points in a Super Cup victory over Hapoel Tel Aviv. He is set to begin his sixth EuroLeague season on Thursday in an away game against Villeurbanne. His previous EuroLeague season was his personal best, averaging 13.5 points, 4.2 rebounds, with shooting percentages of 51.6% from the field and 34.1% from three-point range.

Negotiations for the new contract began approximately five weeks ago, following a period where discussions had stalled. Sorkin had previously expressed that contract extension talks were not a priority, stating in an interview that there were no current talks and an earlier offer was "not relevant." He also mentioned having three years remaining on his existing contract, assuring fans of his commitment to the club. The initial offer presented to Sorkin for the new deal was $1.3 million per season, which he also deemed insufficient before the final agreement was reached.
