News Anchor Yaara Zered Mourns Father's Passing
Yaara Zered, a news anchor for Channel 14, announced the death of her father, Shalom, who passed away overnight between Wednesday and Thursday. Zered shared the news with a heartfelt message on Instagram, writing, "My dear, wise, good, and beloved father. Thank you for everything. Our hearts are broken."
Shalom Zered, who was a career soldier, immigrated to Israel from Morocco at the age of five. His wife, Eva, who is a homemaker, immigrated from Iraq about a month after her birth. The couple had four children: Yaara, her two sisters, and a brother. Yaara is the youngest.
Zered's mother's heritage from Iraq inspired her interest in the history of Iraqi Jewry, particularly the Farhud, a pogrom against Jews in Baghdad. In addition to her media work, Zered dedicates time to researching the Farhud, documenting testimonies, and verifying records at Yad Vashem. Annually, she posts on social media about the event during the holiday of Shavuot to raise public awareness.
The funeral for Shalom Zered will be held on Thursday afternoon at the Pardes Hachaim cemetery in Kfar Saba.
