Hapoel Tel Aviv Reaches Agreement with Yam Madar Over Compensation
The protracted dispute between basketball player Yam Madar and his former team, Hapoel Tel Aviv, has been resolved with an agreement that will allow Madar to register with Maccabi Tel Aviv for the EuroLeague. The conflict stemmed from a financial disagreement, with both sides claiming the other owed them money.
Ultimately, Hapoel Tel Aviv compensated Madar with 150,000 NIS. In return, Madar signed a waiver of claims, officially closing the matter. Hapoel Tel Aviv reportedly sought to end the saga quickly, recognizing the need for compromise to move forward.
The negotiations were reportedly led by Madar's agent, Misko Raznatovic, who conferred with Hapoel Tel Aviv chairman Stav Shaham, reaching a mutually satisfactory understanding.
Madar signed a record-breaking contract with Maccabi Tel Aviv this summer after paying a $300,000 buyout to leave Hapoel Tel Aviv. His new contract is worth a net $2 million per season for three guaranteed years, with two additional team or player option years. The total cost to Maccabi Tel Aviv, including taxes, is estimated at $4 million net.
