Gazelle Rescued From Illegal Cage in West Bank Village

Israeli forces, including undercover police and border guards, along with Nature and Parks Authority inspectors, conducted an operation in the village of Idna, near Hebron, based on intelligence from the Southern undercover police unit. During a search of a suspect's home, a pregnant adult gazelle was discovered confined in a cage in the yard, in violation of the law.

The gazelle was confiscated by the Nature and Parks Authority and transferred to the Safari's wildlife hospital in Ramat Gan for veterinary care. Initial examination by Dr. Ruti Shabiro revealed the gazelle to be in fair physical condition, showing clear signs of captivity. The fetus appeared healthy and the pregnancy was deemed normal at this stage.

The suspect was arrested and is being questioned by the Nature and Parks Authority on suspicion of illegal hunting, possession, harming, and trafficking of protected natural resources. Border Guard forces stated they will continue to cooperate with the Nature and Parks Authority to combat illegal hunting, possession, and trade of protected wildlife.
