Israeli Forces Rescue Illegal Wild Caracal Held in West Bank Basement

Israeli Border Police and Nature and Parks Authority inspectors, guided by intelligence from the Menashe Brigade and the Coastal Border Police, conducted an operation on Tuesday in the Palestinian village of Ra'i in northern Samaria. They discovered a wild caracal illegally held captive in the basement of a private home. The caracal, a protected wild animal forbidden to be kept in captivity, was seized and transferred for veterinary examination. It is expected to be relocated to the Ramat Gan Safari. Authorities arrested a suspect for further investigation on charges related to illegal hunting and possession of a wild animal, with prosecution proceedings anticipated.

Separately, the Israeli Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security reported the rescue of two horses from severe neglect in Kiryat Ata. The horses were found emaciated and injured and have been moved to a protected rehabilitation facility. Following multiple inspections over two months and failure by the owner to remedy the conditions, authorities are considering criminal investigations and legal action under animal welfare laws. The rescue was a joint enforcement effort involving the Ministry of Agriculture, veterinary authorities, and police.
