Prominent Vizhnitz Chassidic Poet Chaim Litman Walzer Dies at 83

Chaim Litman Walzer, a revered elder and prominent poet within the Vizhnitz Chassidic dynasty, has passed away at the age of 83 after a prolonged illness. Born in 1942, Walzer was the son of Rabbi Dov Walzer, a Holocaust survivor and key figure in rebuilding the Vizhnitz Chassidut in Israel. Walzer grew up deeply connected to the Vizhnitz Rebbes and their teachings.

A significant part of Walzer's life was dedicated to the Vizhnitz musical tradition. Possessing a pleasant voice, he served as a lead cantor for over sixty years, performing alongside the "Emek Chaim," "Yeshuos Moshe," and currently the Vizhnitz Rebbe. His singing was considered an integral part of his religious devotion, participating in prayers, ceremonies, and festive meals.

Beyond his spiritual contributions, Walzer managed a silver shop on Rabbi of Vizhnitz Street in Bnei Brak for many years, where he was known as an honest and kind businessman. He was also described as a Torah scholar, humble, and deeply devoted to his community and his Rebbe. He maintained a close relationship with the Vizhnitz Rebbe, recently gifting him an antique belt from his grandfather.

Walzer is survived by his son, Rabbi Yisrael Walzer, a prominent community activist and director of Vizhnitz institutions in London, and two sons-in-law, Rabbi Moshe Kornblum and Rabbi Chaim Finkelstein. His funeral is scheduled to depart from the Great Synagogue of Vizhnitz in Bnei Brak at 1:00 PM, proceeding to the Vizhnitz cemetery for burial.
