Central Elections Committee Reviews Petitions to Disqualify Otzma Yehudit Party
The Central Elections Committee for the 26th Knesset convened for its second consecutive day on Thursday to review petitions seeking the disqualification of competing lists and candidates. The committee is currently examining requests to disqualify the "Otzma Yehudit" party, led by Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, the "Democrats" party headed by Yair Golan, and the "Religious Zionism" party, led by Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich.
On Wednesday, the committee voted to disqualify the candidacy of Knesset Member Ofer Cassif of the Hadash party, former MK Sami Abu Shehadeh, head of the National Democratic Assembly party, the United Arab List led by Dr. Mansour Abbas, and the Joint List headed by Professor Yousef Jabareen. These disqualification cases have been referred to the Supreme Court for further review in the coming days.
Former Minister Yael German addressed the committee, stating that the Dabsha family and the family of Muhammad Abu Khdeir stand with her as she requests the disqualification of Ben-Gvir's party. She declared, "The Dabsha family and the family of Muhammad Abu Khdeir stand with me as I submit the request to disqualify the 'Otzma Yehudit' party led by Itamar Ben-Gvir."
