Top Rabbi Secures $3 Million for Needy Families After High-Stakes Fundraiser

A special fundraising event held at the residence of Rabbi Moshe Sternbuch, a prominent rabbinic authority, successfully raised nearly $3 million to aid needy families in the city of Beit Shemesh and its rapidly expanding Ramat Beit Shemesh Dalet neighborhood. The event, which took place on the eve of the Day of Atonement, required each participating donor to contribute a minimum of $500,000.

The urgent need for funds arose due to the unprecedented growth of Ramat Beit Shemesh Dalet, which now houses over 10,000 families, rivaling the size of the city of Beitar Illit. This rapid expansion placed immense strain on the local charity fund, forcing its administrators to consider drastically reducing aid to existing residents or completely withholding support from new families.

In response to this crisis, senior rabbis from Beit Shemesh approached Rabbi Sternbuch for guidance. After deep consideration, Rabbi Sternbuch personally took responsibility for ensuring that the new residents of Ramat Beit Shemesh Dalet would also receive support, stating, "I take upon myself the responsibility to give also to Ramat Dalet!"

Following this decision, Rabbi Sternbuch initiated a campaign, personally contacting a select group of wealthy donors. These philanthropists, responding to his direct appeal, quickly pooled together approximately $3 million to establish an emergency fund. This substantial sum averted a crisis in the distribution of holiday aid to all families in Beit Shemesh and Ramat Dalet.

To express gratitude for this significant contribution, Rabbi Sternbuch convened the donors for a special prayer and thanksgiving ceremony on the eve of the Day of Atonement. The ceremony, held at his home, also included other prominent rabbinic figures, including members of the Beit Din Tzedek of Jerusalem. During the event, prayers were offered for the donors' continued success, health, and prosperity, and for the annulment of any harsh decrees against them, so they may continue their charitable endeavors.
