Top Rabbi Secures $3 Million for Beit Shemesh Aid Fund

On the eve of Yom Kippur, Rabbi Moshe Sternbuch, a leading Halachic decisor, hosted a unique event at his residence to address a severe financial crisis facing the charitable organizations in Beit Shemesh. The city, particularly the Ramat Beit Shemesh Dalet neighborhood, has experienced massive population growth, straining the resources of local aid funds.

The leadership of the Beit Shemesh charity faced a difficult choice: drastically reduce aid to long-time residents or completely cut off support for the thousands of new families in Ramat Beit Shemesh Dalet. In response to this crisis, prominent rabbis of Beit Shemesh approached Rabbi Sternbuch for guidance.

Rabbi Sternbuch took personal responsibility for ensuring aid reached the new residents. He personally contacted a select group of wealthy donors, appealing for urgent assistance. These donors responded swiftly, contributing nearly $3 million to establish an emergency fund.

This substantial sum will enable the distribution of holiday aid to all families in Beit Shemesh, including the rapidly growing Ramat Beit Shemesh Dalet. The event, described as a "boutique historical ceremony," was held to express gratitude to the donors. Rabbi Sternbuch, along with members of the Badatz (rabbinical court) including Rabbi Natan Kupschitz, Rabbi Shmuel Berensdorf, and Rabbi Shimon Yitzchak Schleisinger, participated in prayers for the donors' continued success and well-being.

The ceremony, held on the eve of Yom Kippur, was intended to bless the donors and avert any potential decrees of hardship, allowing them to continue their charitable endeavors.
