Arab List Disqualified from Knesset Elections Amid Political Accusations
The Central Elections Committee has disqualified the Unified Arab List from participating in the 26th Knesset elections, with a vote of 18 in favor of disqualification, 5 against, and one abstention. The legal center Adalah, representing the list, condemned the decision, stating it lacks any basis in evidence or prior Supreme Court rulings. Adalah asserted that no evidence was presented to support claims of supporting armed struggle by a terrorist organization or hostile state, nor any other legal grounds for disqualification.
During the hearing, Adalah attorney Dr. Suhad Bishara argued that the disqualification requests were based on old evidence previously reviewed by the Attorney General and security institutions. She stated that these reviews had reached conclusions fundamentally contradicting the current claims, requiring significant imagination from those filing the requests.
Adalah views the disqualification as further proof of an illegitimate political maneuver violating the rule of law. The center announced its intention to appeal the decision to the Supreme Court, seeking its annulment.
