IDF Discovers 600-Meter Hamas Tunnel in Gaza
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced on September 23, 2026, the discovery of a tunnel approximately 600 meters long in the central Gaza Strip. According to the IDF, the underground passage originates on the Israeli-controlled side of the "Yellow Line" and extends into an area of Gaza under Hamas control.
Israeli combat engineers were responsible for locating the tunnel. The military stated that its discovery is part of ongoing operations aimed at identifying and dismantling Hamas infrastructure within territory controlled by Israel. The IDF considers such underground structures to be integral to Hamas's military infrastructure.
Israeli units are continuing their efforts to survey areas of Gaza under their control to find similar structures and other facilities associated with the militant group's activities.
