IDF Discovers 600-Meter Terror Tunnel in Central Gaza

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced on Wednesday the discovery of a significant terror tunnel located in the central Gaza Strip. The underground passage, stretching approximately 600 meters, was found by engineering forces operating in the area of the central camps.

The tunnel originates east of the "Gaza Envelope" security fence, crosses into Israeli territory, and extends deeper into Gaza. IDF engineers are currently working to seal the tunnel with concrete.

This discovery comes nearly three years into the ongoing conflict and adds to a series of operational successes by Israeli forces in southern Gaza in recent months. The IDF stated that this is part of an ongoing effort to clear the area.

Previously, in a separate operation about a month ago, forces from the Paratroopers Brigade, under the command of the Gaza Division, located and destroyed an underground route containing dozens of rockets belonging to terror organizations operating in Gaza. This operation was conducted in cooperation with engineering forces and the Yahalom unit.

These findings are part of broader efforts where, for example, the 188th Armored Brigade recently concluded eight months of operations in southern Gaza, during which over ten tunnels were destroyed and dozens of militants were eliminated. Among the tunnels destroyed by the 188th Brigade was one that was part of a tunnel system used to hold hostages during the war. Additionally, numerous weapons, including rockets, rocket launchers, grenades, Kalashnikov rifles, ammunition, explosives, and other combat equipment, were found and destroyed in various tunnel routes.
