Elder Dayan Family Demands Investigation into Police Handling of Son's Death

The family of Elder Dayan, a young man from Dimona who went missing for three weeks before his body was found on August 6 near the Yarkon interchange, has sent a legal notice to the Israel Police. The notice alleges serious mishandling of the investigation into his disappearance and death.

According to the family's claims, the Dimona police station made incorrect decisions from the outset, possibly based on prejudice and an incomplete understanding of events. They contend that key investigative avenues were not pursued, crucial forensic and digital evidence was not collected or preserved promptly, and contradictions in witnesses' accounts were not adequately examined. The family also states that necessary interrogations and further investigative steps were not fully completed.

As a result, Dayan's parents are demanding the establishment of an investigative committee to examine the conduct of all personnel at the Dimona station involved in the case, from patrol officers up to the station commander. The family questions whether Elder would still be alive if the police had acted more decisively in the first week of his disappearance.

The police previously stated that the cause of death could not be determined due to the body's condition, according to a report from the Institute of Forensic Medicine. Two suspects were arrested in connection with Dayan's disappearance and death but were later released under restrictive conditions.

The family is calling for a renewed investigation by senior officials not previously involved and warns of further legal action if a satisfactory response is not received.
