Arab Israeli Politician Vows High Court Challenge After Election Disqualification

Sami Abu Shehadeh, head of the Balad party and third candidate on the Joint List, announced his intention to appeal the Election Committee's decision to disqualify him from running in the upcoming elections. He stated that the committee's ruling was not just against him personally, but aimed at silencing an entire community and its political representation, as well as suppressing Arab voter turnout.

"We will head to the Supreme Court to defend our right and the right of our public to political representation and participation," Abu Shehadeh declared. He asserted that such attempts at exclusion would not intimidate them or deter their struggle.

Abu Shehadeh vowed to continue their peaceful and steadfast fight against racism and political exclusion, striving for freedom, justice, and equality for all citizens. The decision by the Election Committee, which he described as targeting a "complete society," was made on September 23, 2026.
