Nissan Reveals New Pixo EV Based on Renault Twingo

Nissan has unveiled its new Pixo electric vehicle for the European market, which is based on the Renault Twingo but features distinct design elements for a more youthful appearance. The previous generation of the Nissan Pixo was a rebadged Suzuki Alto, a model that proved very popular in Israel. The new Pixo, however, shares its platform with the Renault Twingo, a compact electric car with four seats and a retro design reminiscent of the 1990s Twingo. This move mirrors Nissan's strategy with the Leaf, which was based on the Renault 5 EV.

While the Twingo sports a retro look, the Pixo adopts a modern aesthetic with "pixel" design motifs. The front fascia is significantly different, with a more upright hood, pixel-style daytime running lights, and a clean bumper. The profile is more similar to the Twingo, but with unique front fenders and five-spoke wheels featuring a pixel pattern. The rear also shows a connection to the Twingo, particularly in the black plastic frame around the rear window, which now includes a "Pixo" inscription and pixel detailing. Dimensions are nearly identical to the Twingo: 3.80 meters long, 1.79 meters wide, 1.51 meters high, with a 2.49-meter wheelbase. The trunk offers 356 liters of space with the rear seats folded forward, and there's storage for charging cables underneath.

The interior is largely the same as the Twingo's, with minor changes to the dashboard's upper section and air vent surrounds. The Pixo replaces the Twingo's body-colored plastic trim with gray trim featuring "Pixo" lettering, and the steering wheel is identical except for the Pixo logo. The car includes 23 "Easter eggs" hidden throughout, a nod to "Ni-san" (Nissan in Japanese). The rear seating arrangement mirrors the Twingo's two seats, which can slide to increase trunk capacity.

Technology includes a Google-based multimedia system with a 10-inch screen and Gemini assistant available in 16 languages, supporting navigation and entertainment. A customizable 7-inch digital instrument cluster can display navigation directly from Waze. Standard safety features are included, such as adaptive cruise control, and Nissan will offer an automatic parking system.

The Pixo is powered by a 60 kW (82 hp) electric motor, similar to the Twingo, with an acceleration time of over 12 seconds to 100 km/h. It supports single-pedal driving. The LFP battery has a capacity of 27.5 kWh, providing a range of 259 km. It supports 11 kW home charging and 50 kW fast charging, which can charge the battery from 15% to 80% in 28 minutes.
