Renault Launches Symbioz Hybrid Crossover Offering Spacious Design and Competitive Pricing

Renault Group reported stable global vehicle sales of approximately 1.165 million units in the first half of 2026, with growth mainly driven by hybrid private models in markets like India, Turkey, and Morocco. This offset a sharp decline in private car sales in Europe due to increasing competition from low-cost Chinese manufacturers. Renault is focusing on hybrid crossovers that combine spaciousness and affordability to compete against Chinese imports, supported by anticipated EU regulatory measures such as tariffs and stricter standards.

One such model is the Symbioz, launched in Europe two years ago and now updated with a full hybrid powertrain. The vehicle features a robust exterior design with a prominent front grille, large doors, and a spacious interior that comfortably seats two adults in the rear with a 460-liter trunk expandable to 600 liters. The digital cockpit includes a large digital dashboard and a Google Auto-based infotainment system with AI assistant Gemini, supporting Hebrew voice interaction.

The 2026 Symbioz hybrid pairs a 1.8-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine with two electric motors, delivering a combined 160 horsepower and accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.1 seconds. The gasoline engine activates mainly when the battery depletes or under heavy acceleration. Official fuel consumption is 22.7 km/liter, with real-world figures around 18-19 km/liter and a driving range exceeding 500 km.

On the road, the Symbioz offers moderate handling with a softer suspension that causes noticeable body roll and less refined shock absorption, especially on urban obstacles. Noise insulation is adequate up to 130 km/h, but engine noise can be intrusive under load. The vehicle is priced at 160,000 shekels for the base hybrid and 167,000 shekels for the top trim, making it competitively priced against Japanese and Korean hybrids but facing cheaper, well-equipped Chinese alternatives.

Competitors include the JAC 5 Hybrid (155,000-164,000 shekels) with a 221 hp 1.5-liter turbo engine and the ORA 5 Hybrid (140,000-152,000 shekels) featuring a 223 hp powertrain and stylish design. Renault aims to attract buyers seeking a non-Chinese hybrid option with respectable space and features at a moderate price point.
