Liberman Suggests Jordan Administer West Bank Areas A and B

Avigdor Liberman, leader of the Yisrael Beiteinu party, has sparked significant controversy with a proposal suggesting Jordan take over the administrative and security responsibilities for parts of the West Bank. In an interview with the media outlet Besheva, Liberman stated that an agreement should be reached with Amman for Jordan to administer Areas B and C of the West Bank. He argued that the Palestinian issue is "more critical for them [Jordan] than for Israel." Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu swiftly reacted, demanding Liberman retract his remarks, stating on X, "I never thought you would propose that the Jordanian army control territories of the land of Israel. Retract immediately."

Following the backlash, Yisrael Beiteinu clarified that Liberman had misspoke and intended to refer to Areas A and B, not B and C. Liberman subsequently elaborated, asserting that Israel must maintain full control over all of Area C while seeking a solution for Jordan to administer Areas A and B. He also mentioned the potential creation of an "Israeli-Jordanian confederation."
