Balad Chairman Disqualified from Elections by Central Elections Committee
The Central Elections Committee has disqualified Sami Abu Shehadeh, the chairman of the Balad party, from running in the upcoming 26th Knesset elections. In an unusual move, the committee's chairman, Judge Noam Sohlberg, voted in favor of the disqualification. Typically, the committee chairman abstains from voting.
Sohlberg's vote was part of a majority decision, with 31 committee members voting to disqualify Abu Shehadeh and four voting against. The final decision on the disqualification will be made by the Supreme Court.
