Israel Beiteinu Seeks Disqualification of Arab Parties and MKs
The Central Elections Committee convened on Wednesday to discuss petitions seeking to disqualify candidates and parties from running in the upcoming 26th Knesset elections. Yisrael Beiteinu joined calls to ban the Joint List and the Ra'am party, as well as candidates Ofer Cassif and Sami Abu Shehadeh.
Previously, several petitions were filed against Ra'am, Otzma Yehudit, and the Democratic Party led by Yair Golan. Yisrael Beiteinu's petition specifically targets the Joint List and MK Ofer Cassif, while Otzma Yehudit seeks to disqualify Balad chairman Sami Abu Shehadeh.
The "Yash!" party, led by Gadi Eisenkot, announced its support for disqualifying Abu Shehadeh, citing his October 8th remarks calling the Hamas attack a "historically important event militarily, politically, and strategically." Yash! quoted Abu Shehadeh as saying that if "small and besieged Gaza" could achieve such an attack, others could do so more effectively.
Additionally, the Attorney General, Gali Baharav-Miara, stated her support for Abu Shehadeh's disqualification, finding that the evidence suggests he "expressed support for an armed struggle by a terror organization against the State of Israel," particularly in the article cited by Yash!.
