Liberman Draws Red Line, Complicating Coalition Talks

Avigdor Liberman, leader of the Yisrael Beiteinu party, has issued a strong ultimatum that significantly complicates the formation of the next Israeli government. In an official statement released Tuesday morning, Yisrael Beiteinu declared that the party would vote to disqualify Arab parties and their leaders in the Central Elections Committee.

"Any Zionist government that is established after the elections must define the elimination of Hamas as a central goal of its security policy," the party stated. "Any party that opposes this has no place in the Knesset in Israel. Therefore, we will vote to disqualify the Joint List, Ra'am, Ofer Cassif, and Sami Abu Shehadeh."

Liberman's move effectively rules out any possibility of forming a government that relies on the support or abstention of Arab parties. Current polling data suggests that the bloc opposing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu cannot achieve the necessary 61-seat majority in the Knesset without the backing of these Arab parties. This forces the opposition to reconsider its strategy for forming a coalition.
